Departmental Awards and Honors

Departmental Awards

The Computer Science Department offers three awards to outstanding students who have been recommended by the department's Honors and Awards Committee.

Departmental Honors

Departmental honors are awarded to majors of outstanding academic performance who also complete at least 3 credits in Computer Science 390, 391, or 393; have a Computer Science major GPA of 3.67; and overall GPA of 3.2.

Minimum Grade Requirement

Courses Taken in Fall 2001 or later:

All CS courses required for the major or minor must be completed with a grade of C or better. All non-CS courses required for the major or minor must be completed with a grade of C- or better. A required course may not serve as a prerequisite until it has been passed with an appropriate grade.

Information for Transfer Students

The normal first course in the major is CSCI 111. Transfer students should consult with a department advisor before registering.

Graduate Courses for Undergraduates

Undergraduates may apply to take 700-level graduate courses if they meet the following criteria: completion of at least 78 credits toward the bachelor's degree; computer science major GPA of at least 3.5; and permission of the course instructor, undergraduate advisor, department chair, and the Office of Graduate Studies.
